Along For The Ride

When I was a young boy, my parents took us to Death Valley for spring vacation (since referred to as spring break), and there were long straight stretches of highway with nothing but sage brush and small telephone poles. Besides guessing how far the next mountain range up ahead was, and the time it took to get there to find out who guessed the closest, what I did was work on my timing by blinking every time a telephone pole went by. Exactly when it went by my head. I got good enough at it that I could close my eyes and open them when the poles went by. I now believe we all have timers built into us in one form or another. I don't use alarm clocks. I keep alarm for when there actually is one. As for the line I got from my good friend Phil Banry: "We got time we havent even used yet" was what he once said to a TV reporter as she tried to get an interview with Bill Heckard, me and Banry as we were running to get set up for the grand opening of the Reedsport Discovery Center. I think she might still be standing there with her jaw hanging. Now, as for the idea of not being in control...what would you guess that means?

Lot of people thinking that they're in control

Every little thing has got to be just so

All I want is close enough for Rock N Roll

Me? I'm just along for the ride

You can take me anywhere you wanna go

I ain't in no hurry I got time to blow

I'll sit in the back and count telephone poles

Me? I'm just along for the ride

We got time we ain't even used yet

The faster we go, behinder that we get

When you think about all of the love you lose

Sittin' round and cryin' cause you got the blues

That's your situation, not to be confused with me

I'm just along for the ride

We got time we ain't even used yet

The faster we go, behinder that we get

Lot of people thinking they're behind the wheel

Every little thing is such a great big deal

All I want is close enough for Rock N Roll

Me? I'm just along for the ride

Just along for the ride

I'm just along for the ride
