Chuck Chill, a local movie producer asked me to write a song called "Long Road". Not being musically adept himself, he couldn't explain what he wanted, so he showed me a Willie Nelson video and said "There's the beat!" He wanted country-ish which is not my usual genre. I imagined what a long-haul trucker might think, heading out across the country. Keeping in mind a few lessons I had learned about life, one of which is honor those passed before us.
We are standing proverbially on their shoulders.

Lyrics

Midnight, I'm staying awake. It's a long ride we're gonna make. Noticing the real life I lead is stranger than Mescaline.
A lot of the old boys are dead and gone, and they're a lot of the reason I'm traveling on. This long road.
This long road.
Memories come to mind. They give me no peace of mind. Seems I always tried to make it harder than it was. Let's try to get this right just one more time.
Cuz a lot of the old boys are dead and gone, and they're a lot of the reason I'm traveling on this long road.
Long road.
Sometimes late at night I wonder why we had to fight. Even through the times when what we thought was right, was wrong. And the only weapon we used was a song.
A lot of the old boys are dead and gone, and they're a lot of the reason why I'm traveling on this long road. Long road.
This long road.
